In a small village in ancient Indochina where things were uncertain, Song Huy, a mischievous boy, lived with his Godparents. He always felt like there was one thing he was missing, his parents. As the new Dynasty takes over his village, Song receives, a pouch, fit for the wooden box, inside 12 jade ornaments of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. His Godparents gives Song a letter written by his parents. Song reads the letter out loud; it said: We miss you very much and think about you everyday. When you read this it will mean that the day has come to make a decision. You can leave the village and come find us or stay and live a private life. We cannot tell you where we are, but you must believe in yourself and do the right thing. Song decides to leave his village to embark on a journey throughout Indochina in search for his parents. As he travels, he is pursued by revengeful dragonflies that want Song dead. Incorporated in the story are myths and legends of Southeast Asia that Song goes through. The Zodiac Son is the first of a trilogy. The second part of The Zodiac Son takes place in Europe and the third in the Americas. The Zodiac Son is special because the setting is during ancient times where the myths and legends of the world come alive.
