My Neighbor's Keeper
Louy Castonguay
Retired widow, Mrs. Henson aka Charlie or Mrs. H, flees home, going upstream in a canoe in a rainstorm, when she realizes she is a person of interest in the death of her neighbor. Young Bert came to her home early one evening and told her his mommy wouldn't wake up and his young sisters were hungry. Her paramedic training kicked in and she ran next door to find the young woman was crumpled at the foot of the stairs and beyond help. Circumstances suggested it wasn't an accident. She grabbed up the toddler and the infant and with Bert in tow returned to her house and called the authorities. She only needs to stay at liberty until she can find out what happened. After lots of exploits and much investigation along with newly found friends she didn't know she had, there is one final grand scene when the true culprit is apprehended. This is first in the Keeper Series.
