The Notorious Spy Major Colquhoun Grant The Notorious Spy is based upon Colquhoun Grant's own account of his capture by the French in 1812. He was Wellington's most valued intelligence officer in the Peninsular War recording enemy movements, composition and strength. To the French he was a dangerous spy fit only for a bullet or a rope, but as he operated at all times in uniform he could justly claim that he was an English officer going openly about his profession. Captured in Portgual, he posed a moral problem both to the French and to himself. How he resolved the dilemna and reacted to it makes a gripping and eventful story.
