I wasn't afraid of the dark and I wasn't afraid of being alone, but I was afraid of something. My heart was racing and I felt like running all the way down and out into the light but still I just sat waiting. The longer I sat the darker it got, and just as I was about to get up, I heard the door at the bottom open, then close. Maybe someone was coming up the stairs or maybe they would turn on the light at the bottom and then I would have enough light to see my way down. But the light did not come on and no one started up the stairs. I sat very still waiting for the person to leave or do something, but then I heard the sound of someone quietly crying and what I heard next made me really wish I had never come in here."
