In this installment of the Zombie Crusade series, the Resistance adds unexpected allies in the war against President Barnes and his illegitmate government, and the battlefront moves westward in an attempt to derail a second invasion of Utah and corner Barnes in his California headquarters. General Carlson's armies team up with Luke's Black Battalion, and a contingent from Manitoulin Island, while Jack reunites his old Ranger team to strike at the head of the snake in Alameda. A lucky break regarding Barnes turns into a total disaster, and the infected continue to evolve in unanticipated ways. Will delivers on a promise to Luke, Andi's return from the dead doesn't go as smoothly as she'd hoped, and Barnes gloats about the viral "kill switch" that will soon begin culling the most experienced hunters.
