Earth Forces Command has sent one of its newest Heavy Cruisers, the Udom-Gareth, deep into an uncharted section of the Galaxy to investigate a series of mysterious Sound Bursts. Once there, the Gareth is attacked by a powerful race known as the Sokari. The heavily damaged ship is sent plummeting to the surface of a nearby planet with an atmosphere so dense it hides the massive warship from her attackers. Three rescue ships are sent to assist but are also attacked as soon as they arrive in system. The three ships link up with the Gareth and attempt a fighting retreat but must stop when one of the vessels is damaged and cannot continue. The ensuing battle between the four human ships and the Sokari Fleet takes place both in the void of space and on the surface of a mysterious planet that contains a hidden danger of its own. What the crews of the four ships find just under the surface of this planet is so sinister and dangerous there are no human words available to fully describe it. Now the Gareth, along with the other three warships, must find a way to survive a battle against two hostile forces that are determined to destroy every human they encounter. A battle that could determine the future of the human race itself.
