Guardian Angel A R Rand
Guardian Angel
A R Rand
A quirky bag lady named Buffy saves the life of a Black teenage gang member, T. Rex. Buffy claims to be Rex's guardian angel and, in her last incarnation, a silent screen star. Rex thinks she's a crazy old dame but can't seem to get rid of her. Buffy ingratiates herself into Rex's life. The sparring between the head-strong Rex and the irascible Buffy drives their relationship. As Buffy opens Rex's mind to spiritual possibilities, strange things begin to happen. Rex almost believes in heavenly intervention when he meets Valerie, a lovely Hispanic teenager, and falls in love. Rex is torn between loyalty to the gang and a different way of life. He seeks vengeance on the man who shot him. Danger lurks as Rex tracks a killer. In addition, Rex blames himself for the drive-by shooting of his kid brother years before. As Rex searches for the truth about Buffy's past, she invites him to The Silent, showing movies before sound and using title cards to advance the story. Rex is illiterate and can't read them. Using the cards, Buffy teaches Rex how to read. Rex and Valerie are drawn into the romantic world of the silent screen. Their relationship is threatened by gangs, drug dealers and Valerie's hate-filled brother. In the end Rex must choose between vengeance and a higher ideal expressed by his mysterious Guardian Angel.
