She was his first love, but he had not seen her in the seventeen years since they were teenagers growing up together in the slums of Boston. There she was now astride a magnificent dark bay horse at the horse show he was attending in San Diego. The curious part was that she had an entirely new identity and a name that was not hers. She was still as beautiful as he remembered but in a more mature way. The lyrics of the Bluegrass song, "Queen Anne's Lace," came floating through his mind. The words he remembered were "She's as fine as Queen Anne's lace, but I knew her when." He wondered how and why she had become who she now was, and what had happened to her since he knew her before?
