Omero, an aging wiseguy, takes up the cause of a young woman named Mercy whose fiance was murdered by a mob-connected drug supplier. The story engages the reader in a journey of good versus evil and, in the case of Omero, evil changes sides and brings justice to Mercy's cause. Set in New Jersey when the mob was still active, Isojoki's fifth novel introduces a shadow mobster named "the guy" who arranges contract murders and keeps the tally for the mob families. In the finale, Omero sacrifices himself but was there redemption? Like all of Isojoki's novels, this one crackles with fast paced dialogue and action. It's a thriller with bloodlines to Parker and Puzo.
