The book is a typical story of a less fortunate, less educated family. It is a riveting story of all the bad things you hear about which includes rape, welfare, and domestic violence. It is the story of a woman born in poverty, raped at fourteen and became a mother when she herself was still a child. It is the story of a woman who has never forgiven herself regarding her kids and is still trying to help them on a disability check of $1000/month. It's worth the read.
