Charlie Barnes and her partner Steven Waldner are ordinary free traders as far as the rest of the Galaxy knows. In reality, they work as undercover agents for the free planet of Libertad seeking out any threats to their homeworld. Traveling aboard their starship Dauntless, With the aid of Dauntless' AI, Amie, Charlie and Steven learn of a fearsome alliance between a megacorporation that has sought economic hegemony over most of human-colonized space and a genocidal alien race called the Lu'non. Now, the Dauntless races to find out the real goal of this unholy alliance and bring together enough allies of their own to defeat the Lu'non and their corporate allies. Along the way, they share their Christian faith with a most unlikely 'guest', making for a most dramatic change of loyalties on the alien's part.
