Marie is described by those who know her as a social justice warrior; and much of her writing reflects her efforts to bring awareness to larger themes. However, in this, her sixth published book of poetry, she shows a softer, more vulnerable side. In this book she details a far more personal and intimate story; that of a return to love and reflection on loss and recovery of a woman's voice. Her story is at once uniquely personal and universal. Between 2018 and 2019, there were terrible unexpected deaths in her larger community; a struggle to overcome the last vestiges of narcissistic abuse and recovery; and deeper forays into the challenges of requited and unrequited love. Chapters here cover eulogies for the people lost and letters to those who were left behind; an imagined love quadrangle told in poetic verse; and reflections on those who were part of a return to a life of love and promise. She offers no easy answers; and this book raises more questions than it answers. Written in both English and Spanish, it is recommended for anyone who is searching for larger meaning in an increasingly superficial world.
