When Philip Thibodaux returns to Louisiana to assume control of his late father's sugar plantation, the slaves hope that he will be as benevolent as their old master-- but they will be sorely disappointed. It soon becomes clear that Philip is a sadist who delights in boiling slaves alive and violating servants with kitchen utensils. Their only hope for survival is Mambo Nia, a wet nurse whose breast milk has the ability to transform humans into soucouyants-- the mythical blood-sucking hags of Caribbean legend.
