Apathy or ActionSmall Choice. Big Impact!

Exactly five months ago, I got the call. The call I'd been anxiously waiting for since I'd felt the small lump on my neck. I was at work, so I quickly walked into a quiet room. My heart was pounding out of my chest.

"Damon, you've got cancer."

Immediately, I was overwhelmed with fear and the tears started flowing. What about my kids? What about my wife who'd survived cancer twice? What would they do when I was no longer alive? Who would walk my daughters down the aisle at their weddings? Who would teach my son how to be a man? Who would love and protect my family when I was gone?

I rushed home to tell my wife before the kids got home.

"Honey, I have cancer."

We held each other tightly, our tears bonding our souls together.

"We'll get through this, we'll get stronger, and God will be glorified," I said as I looked her in the eyes.

I didn't plan on writing a book during my cancer journey. It just happened. It turns out it was one of the best decisions of my life. Writing helped me process my own emotions and make decisions through my journey. More importantly, I received overwhelming feedback from my blog that my writing was very inspirational to many people.

When I started writing I had no idea how many chapters would be in the book. "I'll be done writing when the story is over," I told people. My treatment is over and I'm cancer free. My story of overcoming cancer is now complete.

I don't know what your story is, but my prayer is that my story will inspire you as well.
