The story of two men, one a Jesuit priest on a mission to bring Jesus Christ to the Indians in the great Northwest, the other an army captain on a mission to build a road from the Missouri River to the Pacific to open the land to white settlement. A French priest, Charles Benet and the son of an Irish immigrant, Captain Sean Quinn are caught in the maelstrom when the many Indian tribes rise up to resist the flow of settlers onto their land. When the army prepares for the great final battle, Father Benet understands that he must act to avert the war which threatens the lives of his flock and everything he has worked for.
