The land of Alynthia was born of magic. The furthest that anyone could trace back was six thousand years. Legend tells that the Creator blessed the land with diverse and beautiful creatures. Ancient cave etchings are all that remain of great dragons that once ruled the sea and air, mischievous pixies (little folk) of the woodlands, and giant wolves that roamed the ice mountains where no fae or faery could live. Tattered scrolls reveal that Alynthia's magic was so great that even the trees came to dance among the campfires of spring. Those magical creatures are gone, and only three of the four Ancients remained. Two of the Ancients dwell in Alynthia and are poised for war. They have killed their brother Mahlto, and for their betrayal, the sisters were imprisoned for four thousand years. After their release one hundred years ago, faery-kind has suffered and only half of their population remains. Four of the six kings of Alynthia are subject to the Ancient Malvina. Two Kings continue the fight for the lives of their people. A law given by the Ancients Machiana and Mahlto thousands of years ago has led to the King of Darkness, Rhydaen Shaede to take the 'Trek of Talo' (Journey to find Home). He did not want this, he has no use for a Queen or a wife. He only wishes to protect his people. He is the most powerful and feared of the Kings of Alynthia and he has kept his people safe against all odds. Darkness and cruelty radiate from him and no one dares cross him. When he chooses his Queen, it is not because he loves her. It is because she is the last one on the list. A surprising twist of fate brings the King of Darkness a chance not only to save his people but to also save himself from the emptiness that he has carried for the last seven hundred years.
