The Blood, the Gold and the Girl
Joni Howard
When he came through the notch, the sight took his breath away. It was a small valley with old cliff houses up in the rocks. He tried to climb a few, but they proved to be too steep for him so he started diggin' in the dirt a little seein' if there was any sign of yellar' but the place spooked him. He told us that he started shakin' 'cause he heard chanting. The sounds were like someone singin' and cryin' at the same time and there was no one around that he could see, so he grabbed that mule and started to head out of there. Just before he got to the opening of the notch in the wall, he saw an Indian sittin' on a big boulder cross legged with his arms raised to the sky.
