The Colonial Chronicles is an epic series of American historical fiction offering a panorama of characters and events of the American Colonial Period chronicling the establishment of the Thirteen Original Colonies. Spanning a century and a half, the series opens with the loss of the Roanoke Colony, and concludes shortly after the establishment of the Georgia Colony in 1732. Part Five opens after the Antimonian Controversy involving Ann Hutchinson. Roger Williams seeks a charter unifying all Rhode Island colonies into a single colony, but meets with resistance from William Coddington. New laws are codified throughout the colonies as the first generation of New England Puritans is met with resistance by the second generation's rejection of established Puritan values. The English Civil War exerts a toll on the colonies as Maryland is overtaken by Parliamentarian revolutionists, forcing Governor Calvert to flee to Virginia, where Governor William Berkeley assists him in reclaiming his colony. As the English Civil War hurtles forward to regicide, colonial supply shipments dwindle, forcing colonies to reinvent trading. Peter Stuyvesant forces his will on New Netherlands, while the Plascomb and Voorsten families enlarge their successful business empires, and other colonial families are continually faced with new horizons and newer hurdles.
