Sophia descends below the Great Pyramid into the Subterranean Chamber. As a professor of Egyptology, she suspects there's a hidden chamber that contains its construction details from the time of the pharaohs. She taps along a stone wall listening for a hollow sound and perchance strikes a stone with the hieroglyphs of Isis. A wall of rocks tumbles around her and crushes her chest. With her last breath, she strikes another stone and it opens into a gold-lined chamber. She crawls into it and realizes she has been brought back to life by the goddess Isis. A large obsidian sphere is suspended in the back of the chamber and Sophia presses her hand to it. She's instantly transported into the Queen's chamber where she meets goddesses who empower her with gifts. Exiting the pyramid, she finds herself in a devastated world, 200 years in the future. She sees a gang of young urchins by the Nile and invites them on an epic journey across the Sinai Desert to Jerusalem, where she befriends Salome, the wife of a caliph, and they have a quixotic lesbian affair. But her preaching goddess worship to homeless kids invites the ire of religious leaders who attack her. This titillating adventure is laced with science, religion, and the fascinating practice of goddess worship. Other enthralling books in this trilogy: Killing Time in Cairo, and Cairo Interlude.
