Hanna Wardwell was born in 1857 at Grantsville, Maryland, and she died in 1950 (aged 93). Hanna Wardwell was the twelfth child of thirteen children. Hanna was only two years old when her mother died. Hanna's father Simon Willard Wardwell simply could not manage his large family, and thankfully his sister Lucy Ann Wardwell was willing to be the foster mother of Hanna. Lucy Ann Wardwell was married to her first cousin Horace Ware. Hanna was moved from a relaxed and easygoing family in warm and pleasant Maryland to an erudite and competitive family on the cold seacoast in Clifton, Massachusetts. According to my father, "Aunt Hanna is a very brilliant woman and a very popular woman. She was always doing good-always cheerful and a joy to her relatives and friends." I have many of Hanna's books and it seems these books can tell us much about her goodness. "I have unclasp'd to thee the book even of my secret soul."(Shakespeare, Twelfth Night)
