Governor McCormick received a message requesting help in the town of Painted Rock which lay in the northeastern section of Arizona. He contacted Marshal Bob Morgan who was in Red Rock to ride that way. Figuring he may need some help, Morgan recruited two of the best guns he knew; Wade Tanner and ex-outlaw, Gus Arby, better known in the old days as Blackjack. Together they rode to the town overrun by ruffians to bring law and order.
