In this book, Living within the Unforeseen, author Tracy Samuel takes a quick look over the past sixteen years at some unforeseen events that have occurred since June 2005. He recalls how Hurricane Katrina tore through New Orleans and devastated the city and how he and his wife supported over fifty in-laws during that difficult time. He shares his experiences about being diagnosed with cancer twice and the shock he felt upon hearing the news. He talks about how once accepted, he was able to deal with a treatable disease and move on with his life. How the election of the first black president was such a proud moment for many black people and people of color, most Americans, including himself, as we celebrated the historic event. The election of Donald Trump was such a major disappointment after the uplifting moment Americans experienced with the election of Barak Obama. He won an election fueled by hate, pitting people against one another, his disrespect of women, lies, and deception. His disastrous response to the health crisis that cost so many Americans their lives, which also ruined the economy, and his blatant disregard of the constitution may take years for America to recovery. Finally, it seems the more things change, the more they remain the same when it comes to black people and people of color obtaining equal rights and citizenship. The struggle continues.
