This is a picture book and the images are by turns: cheerful, pleasant, poignant, or stunning. They are employed to be pleasing to the eye of the reader and at the same time to give the subtle message of diversity, inclusiveness, acceptance, and tolerance. As you can see, the girls or women depicted are from all sorts of ethnicity, cultures, skin color, heritage, nations, etc. The text (couplets) are meant to provide levity. I (or the author) loved silly rhymes when I was a child and I'm convinced that children generally enjoy the sound of rhymes. My own experience with reading to younger siblings, nieces, nephews, etc. was that they nearly always enjoyed it (being read to). Children are honest and if they sit and pay attention, then you know they got some pleasure from the sounds, from their own imagination. This book is an attempt to be a voice of acceptance and inclusiveness (however slight that attempt is) of girls/women from all over the world.
