Metaphysics for Experience tries to explain how we can be sure that either further instances of regularity must appear or other instances of regularity must take place. Approaching Hume's Problem, also known as the Problem of Induction, could corroborate this dilemma. If we do not have any guarantee of the existence of future phenomena, then we are skeptical about all our representation of the world.

To correct for that uncertainty, some try to show that we can take this perplexity for granted, arguing that our empirical ideas precede our experience proper, and that experience is merely a phenomenon that tests our ideas. Others argue that it is normal for a generation to substitute one explanation of a law for another explanation of a different law without resolving the problem of the lack of the guarantee.
