The "Sowgarth Incident" is coming of age story featuring feisty, 13-year old McKenna "Sassy" Schadegg. Set in the mythical Minnesota town of Freeborn, the story examines McKenna's unique character and how it develops over a tumultuous year in her unconventional life. While McKenna is dealing with the untimely death of her father, she gets caught up in a Halloween adventure that takes a very wrong turn. In the process, she learns much about her classmates, the people of her town, and life. Told in McKenna's voice, with some help from her sage grandfather Earl, the story features many interesting characters and vivid scenes. It is well suited for Teens and intellectually-mature Middle Schoolers who are strong, curious readers--and who can appreciate educational side trips sprinkled with humor along the way. But the story is also meant for Adult fiction readers who appreciate humor and social commentary.
