Samantha Rose Johnson is a tough, cynical, but law-school educated, licensed private detective working in Elgin, Illinois. From growing up biracial in the tough South Sangamon neighborhood of Chicago in the seventies, to a tour with the United States Army Military Police Corps where she completed Air Assault training, Sam knows what life can throw at you. When she encounters thugs of any stripe who ask her who she thinks she is, she's glad to stare them in the eyes and reply with a sardonic grin, "straight up bitch, comma optional" . In Legal Matters, Sam is retained by an attorney client who knows Sam's bisexuality may alleviate some concerns of his client and two witnesses. When Sam and Diana visit the witnesses' residence, events take an unexpected turn.
