Over the years, various allegations have been made against the Nachtigall Battalion Wehrmacht for it's supposed collaboration with the Nazis during World War II. This book, translated from the writings of its last surviving member, details the main purpose and goals of the Battalion. Hundreds of thousands of American service men sacrificed their lives to defeat Nazi Germany. Unfortunately, most Americans remained unaware of the difficult circumstances in which countries like Ukraine found themselves under Stalinist oppression. Ukrainians and other victims of Soviet aggression viewed the upcoming struggle between Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany from a very different perspective. The saw this struggle as a possible realistic opportunity to restore their nations' freedom and independence. This book, written by an actual participant in the events described, will hopefully be a useful addition to the literature concerning the history and politics of the Second World War. It will, also, give the reader an appreciation of the courage, commitment, and personal sacrifice made by many thousands of Ukrainian patriots who fought for their nation's freedom and independence during that war.
