For the second time in as many days, John woke up on his back. He kept his eyes closed, he didn't want to experience that same piercing pain again that he did in the hotel room. But then he frowned. What he heard and felt around him was not what he expected. He was expecting to feel the cold, hard asphalt beneath him and the cool evening air as he lay on the sidewalk that he collapsed on.
