'The Last of the Storytellers' explores the idea of conformity versus individual thought and the idea that history exists only when it is written or passed down as a story. It can be erased. Powerful people behind the scenes have gathered ninety percent of the world's population to form the Collective. This is a virtual world created by the melding of all the people's minds, requiring conformity to a standard way of thinking, for the 'good' of all the inhabitants. The leader of the Collective is called the Controller. Life is good in the Collective, all inhabitants are treated fairly and equally, so long as the rules are followed. Individualism is not tolerated. But there is a problem. The few people that do not live within the Collective have discovered that it exists. To maintain control, the people in each world must not know that the other exists. The mission of young Kim Schneider is to destroy all written words regarding the Collective and to find the last remaining history book. In her search, Kim will meet the last storyteller, witness a new world, and have freedom to think for herself. As she questions the mission, dark and powerful people will lay in wait against her.
