While conducting research on his latest novel, Harmony, writer and psychic, Don Michaels, begins receiving vivid apparitions from the other side; visions of people being brutally murdered. Don's latest novel, Harmony, is based on his theory that high levels of psychic energy found at many of the Civil War battle sites, indicate the presence of wandering souls virtually marooned at the site of their demise. Because these wandering souls were not in harmony with life at the time of their violent deaths, they were unable to cross over. The writer soon learns that the people in these graphic visions are his own ancestors, who in 1864 resided at Harmony Plantation, near New Orleans, Louisiana. They were terrorized, tortured, and killed by a gang of renegades led by General Jack the Butcher Sheol, who was himself, possessed by a demon from Hell. Don then realizes what he is compelled to do. He sets out to find the Harmony Plantation where the atrocities against his family occurred, defeat the demon holding them captive there, and pave the way for his ancestors to finally cross over.
