During the 1st Anglo-Egyptian and Sudan wars, several of Britain's most prestigious cavalry and infantry regiments were assigned the task of protecting Britain's interests in the region, both from the resurgence of Muslim militarism and the country's other European competition in the mad scramble to establish their respective sphere's of influence in Africa, primarily seizing vast areas of the continent and setting up colonies. This first book presents a brief history of selected regiments, from their original formation through the 2nd Boer War, who served in Egypt and the Sudan between 1882 and 1899.
