I'm excited to have Dr. Matt Harris back on the show. By the 1960s, race was a big topic of discussion not only in the nation, but at BYU as well. Dr. Harris will talk about the various ways government and civic organizations put pressure on BYU and the LDS Church over the race ban. Did the IRS really try to take away the Church's tax-exempt status? What role did sports protests against BYU affect Church leadership? Was there a problem with civil rights at BYU? And was there a problem with accreditation over the BYU law school? This is one of my favorite conversations to date, because some of the history involves people who are still living, including Elder Dallin Oaks and President Jimmy Carter! Matt is doing some cutting-edge history, and I can almost guarantee you will learn a lot more about the ban and BYU than you knew before! Check out our conversation....
