Beth Riley doesn't have too many options open to her. Having just experienced a life changing event, she finds herself financially strapped and a little short on hope for the future. Murphy Whitaker finds himself in a pretty challenging situation himself. He has to find someone soon to marry if he is to be the sole guardian of his young niece and nephew. The two meet, and it soon becomes apparent that they can help each other address their problems. Deciding to accept the offer of marriage in name only, Beth and Murphy join hands in a temporary arrangement. They have a lot to learn about each other in a very short time. Murphy's sister-in-law claims she also wants the children. But she also wants to make Murphy suffer as much as she can. He finds out that such a woman scorned can be a tough adversary.
