"One-Lane Blacktop" represents an eclectic mix of various kinds of humor - jokes, puns, satire, witty, not so witty, gross, ribaldry, and most prevalent of all: humorless humor. Also included are a few war stories. Live with it. The book is made up of notes placed in empty food containers belonging to Lynn and Julie Carl, friends of Jack Cordes. The Carls would send him home with food and he would send a thank-you note. Discovering that the Carls had kept the notes, Jack Cordes had them printed in the present form. Why the Carls kept the notes remains a mystery. Perhaps it was some sort of penance.
