It's 1963 and Margaret Grey, a recent journalism graduate of Auburn University, has mailed out hundreds of resumes, only to receive rejection after rejection. She fears having to return home to surrender her virginity to a young officer at Fort Rucker. In the nick of time, an opportunity affords itself, and Margaret's father, retired Colonel Marvin Grey, escorts her to Bude, Mississippi, for a job interview: the position is that of caregiver for ninety-year-old Rebecca Ward, heiress of Ward Manor, a Civil War era plantation. The job offer is a windfall, providing Margaret with time to begin writing a novel. What Margaret does not realize is that she has traveled through a time portal into the late 1800's. She soon discovers she cannot leave, and attempting to escape will result in her death. Margaret's parents, along with another, unexpected group of people, begin forging a plan to rescue Margaret, but will their efforts be enough... and soon enough?
