The Hansom Family Decides to leave NYC and join a wagon train following the Oregon Trail headed for the Wild West. They settle near Laramie where they collide with an outlaw marshal known as Big Steve Long. Charlie Burton, a New York neighbor of the Hansoms, travels first to The Dakota Territory where he gets into trouble in the Badlands. He then moves on to join the Hansom family at Laramie and a familiar group in the Wyoming Territory. Some members of the group join with Buck Benson and become lawmen and track a band of outlaws who have killed some friends. It is not clear if they go as law men or for personal reasons. The chase takes them to Cheyenne, Denver and Salt Lake. They return to Laramie only to get involved in another gunfight. Afterward James Riley becomes famous as a gun fighter and is pursued by a bounty hunter. He travels to Montana and Dakota Territories before eventually returning to Laramie. The saga ends in another generation who are just as rough and ready as their forefathers.
