An early-retired executive from Montreal is on a mission to discover his Italian roots. He flies to Rome as a first step towards what will become a series of personal discoveries that will change his persona and his life forever. Through it all he divorces his wife in Montreal, meets the love of his life in Rome, and marries a much younger woman only to find out she was never meant for him. In parallel with his sentimental problems, he is tasked by his relatives to find a solution to an old family problem related to a young girl named Gioia. As he investigates the problem he discovers an unexpected link to the love of his life that ties together various episodes of his journey. The end appears to have been prewritten in heavens.
