Four public lectures, presented first in 1963, with the addition of a fourth given in 1973, with the stated aim of increasing public awareness of G. I. Gurdjieff's work. J. G. Bennett (1897-1974) had been a military intelligence officer when he first encountered Gurdjieff, met him again in civilian life in France, and at the time of Gurdjieff's death in 1949, was an active pupil. Having been a student of Gurdjieff's main pupil P. D. Ouspensky over a twenty year period, Bennett had come under suspicion and been banned from Ouspensky's groups. Nevertheless, Bennett had been reintroduced to Gurdjieff in 1948 by Ouspensky's widow and remained close to him until his death. Bennett is the author of several books about Gurdjieff, most notably his "Gurdjieff: Making a New World." He also opened his own school where he taught Gurdjieff's work intensively during the last four years of his life.
