Just before Nigerian independence, the white missionary from England arrived Umueke, a little kingdom in the south eastern part of Nigeria to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The people were so receptive to receiving this new way of worship rather than hanging on to the fetish practices of their ancestors except Chief Okeke Mbata and his family who had been the custodian of the traditions of Umueke. When Amobi, his son was born, the events leading to his birth set the stage for crisis and division between the worship of Isieke and the god of the white man.
