Take A Seat is set in a courthouse waiting room. The twist? You're dead. Moments after their unfortunate ends, a cluster of characters turn up in limbo, told to simply take a seat and wait for their "decision" to be made. Nobody knows where they are, what's going on, or who they share this room with. They just wait. Emotionally charged, they clash over faith, life decisions, right and wrong, and ultimately bonding over the one thing they all have in common: the impending unknown. Although this play was written for an Australian audience, the themes and personas we meet are applicable in every society. We go on a journey with people like a Muslim refugee, an ignorant soldier, a father and son trying to forgive each other, an artist with depression, and even the occasional sociopath. All of whom are guided reluctantly by their angelic usher, Jophiel. Written, directed and produced by British actor and writer Kieran Gould-Dowen, the play was originally a one act show, performed at The Butterfly Club in Melbourne. After a sold out season, the play was developed into a two act piece, truly exploring the themes and characters that the format has allowed us to. With themes such as racism, homophobia, alcoholism, depression, suicide, drug abuse, hate crime, parenting, ignorance, and of course, religion, there's something for everyone. Exploring many current topics along the way, Take A Seat captures all walks of Australian life, as they come together in an explosive, challenging and emotional journey, that'll leave you asking questions.
