In the early-1900's there was an attempt by Irish Nationalists to regain their sovereignty and freedom from Great Britain with an armed Rising in 1916, followed by a War of Independence during the years 1919 until 1921 when peace negotiations began, resulting in a Treaty signed in December 1921.
