In the early beginning of man's journey with body art for the adorning the skin was b&w tattoos. This photo-essay hearkens back to that era with examples of b&w tattoos or 'ink'. Quite possibly, about the same time that man discovered fire, the resulting charcoal could have been used for a black pigmentation for resulting tattoos. In the early start, skin was either cut, scratched or poked with a sharp point. The resulting lesions formed a design to which powdered charcoal was added to provide greater definition to the work of art. Later on. plants, colored earths and other sources were used to add some further definition in terms of additional colors and shading. Enjoy examples of people who are working on their own display of Ink..
