Floodgates
Shakele Seaton
"Floodgates" covers a personal journey through young adulthood. It covers different domains: love, sisterhood, femininity, black womanhood, mental health, race, and (well-) being. These poems are reminders that we are full of life, even if we may seem a little messy from time to time. It is embracing that rawness that makes us beautiful. That makes life full. Essentially, these poems are me flooded onto the pages, my voice finally being heard, overwhelmingly so. It is a reflection of being bursting at the seams, tired of holding it all in, and finally releasing. In its radiance and rawness, it speaks to the experience of finding yourself, in the cracks and crevices of people you encounter, and whatever else this world shows you.
