Terry Southend, famed marine and one of the few to have survived an encounter with the terrible bio-engineered Nikruk, has set his path as a politician. A unified human government seems like a real possibility. But will humans survive the Nikruk onslaught? Shi'ran is a new type of Nikruk designed and perfected by the new Mother. He and his nine litter brothers were created for one purpose only; to lead the alien hoard to victory. But even with Mother's ability to copy human technology, the great human armies and fleets are still more technologically advanced and combat-experienced. She needs a new weapon and she intends to snatch it from right beneath the new human government's nose.
