The fictional character, Johnny Moore, represents realistic African American youth that the educational system has failed. Yes, parents have a responsibility, the church has a responsibility and the students, themselves, at a point have part. This work focuses solely on the role of teachers and school administrators as it relates to their role as educators. Teaching is not a rocket science; all students really need is love and acceptance. Can we save then all? Of course not, but we can save more by changing the culture in schools that fail. It is time to train teachers to use strategies that promote growth academically, socially, and emotionally.
