When Stannard (St Jack) Jackson and his new wife Annie move to Lyons, Colorado in the Rocky Mountain foothills they believe they have found heaven on earth. But when they see a precocious- teenager step off a school bus dressed in the green and blue tartan kilt signifying the Clan Graham their life begins to change. Angie Graham, her sister Ellie Beth and her brother Graham (Scottie) live in a house occupied by a drunken, abusive father and a mother of questionable reputation where Angie is the primary protector and surrogate mother for 4 year-old Scottie. Angie, redheaded and pretty like her mother, has already begun drawing attention from the wrong type boys. The Jacksons become reluctantly involved in the lives of this troubled family after Angie's father abandons them in search of booze and drugs. As spring turns to summer Angie practices with her dance troupe preparing for the Scottish Highland Festival in Estes Park. For a while all seems right with the world until her father reappears dragging a ne'er- do-well friend back into their lives. Angie Graham had a lamb his name was Graham too. And everywhere that Angie ran he stuck to her like glue. He followed her too far one day when she went out the tent. The lambs became a killer's prey but God saw where they went. He sent St Jack to follow them high on raptor mountain. But when he tried to rescue them he found the spoil of Arawn.* * [In Celtic mythology the god Arawn is believed to chase down lost souls with his spectral hounds of Annwn, the underworld.]
