The Many Deaths of Mary

Madge St. Clair raised her daughter to do two things; be beautiful and win the Miss America pageant. When Mary loses the Miss America Pageant, Madge is beyond devastated, allowing her grief to overcome her and she dies. Mary is then introduced to a mysterious stranger who gives her a cryptic choice. She can go forward with this life building on from her loss, or go back and win the pageant, but then must learn what true beauty is. Mary chooses the later and while her mother lives, she is taken through a series of deaths that lead her from a backwoods farm with ulterior motives, to a planet far from earth. Mary must live and die over and over again until she understands what it truly means to be beautiful. The Many Deaths of Mary is a feminist social commentary/Horror/Sci-fi novel. Each fantastical death explores how society/life/the world abuses and exploits women. This exploration is wrapped up in a compelling story that moves from the fantastical to the mundane and back again.
