Uxbridge Week with Echoes
Scott McMurrey
Uxbridge Week is a cycle of 69 poems conceived as reflections on a vacation in an old New England town. Each poem is accompanied by an "echo," that is, a quotation from a real or imaginary great book. The echoes and the poems reflect one another, deepening the reader's involvement with the poetry by leading the mind along byways of experience that might not, at first glance, seem relevant.
In contrast to the muscular and staccato poetry of impressive works like Milk and Honey, salt., and The Chaos of Longing, the poems of Uxbridge Week proceed at a slower tempo, with introspective and reflective deliberation-like meditations in verse.
Uxbridge Week is a tranquil yet penetrating journey into the depths of the human heart.
