Summer Vacation is about four friends who considered themselves misfits. They feel unloved, unwanted, and alone in the world. They support each other and stand together in fights, arguments, and punishments. They are graduating from high school and want out before college.

The girls plan a trip for the summer to experience romance, excitement, and whatever comes. They pull together money for years to plan this escapade. They buy, steal, borrow, and beg for food, music, and anything they might need on their journey.

They do find jobs in Florida, and they find excitement and lots of boys and liquor. They also find sorrow and pain. One finds loves and acceptance. One finds herself. One moves away without telling the others. One is lost forever.
