Rejections, 2016

I'm mostly certain that there's not a publication I didn't submit to [in 2016]. Which is a wild exaggeration, of course. But it feels that way. The New York Times. Vice. Cosmopolitan. Local publications that write about gossipy brouhaha and other things like sex and politics. I submitted to magazines that have been around for decades. I wrote poetry, short stories, edited manuscripts and submitted them too. I didn't write any plays or sonnets. And I didn't get a raise at my work as a copy editor/writer. I learned to live with myself and my writing. That's all. It was a year full of rejection. I laughed at it. There were a few stories published, one or two. And I started two new manuscripts, developing ideas for other projects as well. A year full of nights with the gods and goddesses of creation. Sure. Who else was gonna do it?
